SLPP Desperate to Deploy Temne Loko Card
From my many years of diligent research, I have come to the conclusion that there exists a certain small clique of Sierra Leoneans from South-East who believe they are ordained to rule this country. They would do anything, including attacking their own South-Eastern brothers and sisters in order to grab power. This clique sees the SLPP as a mere vehicle by which they can achieve their aims. Late Dr. Soyei (RIP) regularly lambasted them in newspaper and radio interviews as the “ethnic faction” within SLPP. To the clique, SLPP is just a tool and for them, brutalising even their innocent family members and fellow South-Easterners to get power is acceptable.

In Sierra Leone, Line Ministries to Account to President Koroma
Line ministries including Paramount Chiefs from the 149 Chiefdoms, 84 Headmen and 16 Tribal Heads from the Western Area, will on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th May 2012, be hosted in a two-day symposium to be organized the Open Government Initiative (OGI) in Freetown. On the second day of the symposium, President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma is expected to attend and listen to line ministries giving explanations as to how they utilized government’s budgets allocated to them. The President is also expected to give the keynote address in the symposium and also respond to questions from members of the public in attendance.

In Sierra Leone, MoFED Launches DSD Project Phase II
The Integrated Project Administrative Unit of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MoFED) has launched Phase II of the Decentralize Service Delivery (DSD) project in Freetown. The project, worth Thirty-Four Million United States Dollars, is partly funded by the European Union, who provided Eight Million United States Dollars, whilst the World Bank contributed Twenty-Six Million United States Dollars respectively.

The Honorable House of Parliament on Tuesday 15th May 2012 approved five Presidential nominees. Presenting the nominees to the House, Majority Leader of Parliament, Hon. Sheku B. B. Dumbuya, who doubled as Chairman of the Committee on Appointment and Public Service, told the House that, all the nominees have went through intensive interviews conducted by the committee on diverse dates. ACC Encourages Drivers To Reject Corruption Demands in Sierra Leone
The Regional Manager of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) North, has pleaded with drivers plying the routes in the Northern Region to reject any corrupt demands from public officers in the traffic sector, as it is an offence. Speaking at a sensitization meeting with drivers on Tuesday 15th May 2011 at the Drivers Union office in Makeni, Mr. Patrick Sandi emphasized that the Anti-Corruption Act 2008 clearly makes it an offence for anybody who offers an advantage to a Public Officer or any member of a Public Body in order to influence him/her.

AWARENESS TIMES has a solid reputation for retracting and apologising, without prompting, when we make errors. Evidence abounds. So if we prefer for Deputy Minister Sheka Tarawalie to take us to Independent Media Commission (IMC) rather than us retracting his so-called misleading quote, it must be for a reason. Maada Bio’s Priorities are Redundant: Sierra Leone President ls Already Dealing With the Youth Issue & the Economy
Apparently, the flag-bearer of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Julius Maada Bio, does not really know what is going on in Sierra Leone. Apart from his reluctant acceptance of his role in extrajudicial killings in the worldwide-listened BBC ‘Focus on Africa’ programme, and his blatant lies of saying the SLPP built 700 kilometres of road from Freetown to other countries while the APC has only done about 3 kilometres (which in reality should actually be the reverse), the rat-like cornered former junta leader actually exposed his ignorance of the solid socio-economic foundation currently being laid in Sierra Leone by stating that his priorities would be youth employment and the economy – because, according to him, “economic growth will never materialise while Mr Koroma presides over at best incompetence… bla bla bla” – with Chatham House evoking the picture of a scene in ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep’!

In Sierra Leone, Hon. Bah commissions 14 million Leones bridge project
Freetown Tuesday May 15 (SLENA)- Member of Parliament for Constituency 110, Hon Chernor Maju Bah over the weekend commissioned two bridges at Upper Tengbeh Town linking the rest of the Tengbeh town community. The project costs fourteen millions Leone (Le14 m). Commissioning the two bridges, Hon. Let Banya wait for my Part 2 of Charles Taylor: Sierra Leone’s Scapegoat to know whose Yamoussoukro comment I was referencing. In the meantime, I hope Banya read and digested yesterday’s piece by retired Police Superintendent Tayyib Bah. According to Tayyib Bah, “of the 20 or so RUF combatants that accompanied Sankoh to the Yamoussoukro Peace Talks, only one, and even that was a female, was a Northerner/Temne. The rest were South easterners.” Tayyib Bah also predicts:- “until we accept responsibility for the barbaric manner in which we treated our kith and kin and atone for our sins, God, or retribution, will bring “punishment for [our] errors upon sons and upon grandsons, upon the third generation and upon the fourth generation.” Exodus 34:7

The judiciary of Sierra Leone on Monday 14th May 2012 held a civic laying-out ceremony for the late Honourable Justice Samuel Adejobi Ademosu at the Miatta Conference Hall, Youyi Building in Freetown. The Project Coordinator of the Bumbuna Hydro-Electricity Project, Mr. Bosso Lucino, has told journalists that the water level in the Bumbuna Hydro-Electricity Power Dam has dropped considerably. In Sierra Leone, FBC Students’ Union Tactically Bows to Defeat
What earlier on seemed to be an open confrontation by students of Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone against the University’s Administration, is said to have been laid to rest, after the current Students’ Union (SU) Government decided to call off what they were referring to a strike action. It could be recalled that, there was an open confrontation staged by the students to forcefully stay on campus after the administration had peacefully pleaded to them to leave until the end of the ongoing renovation process on the hostels. In Sierra Leone, President Koroma to Rescue Bunumbu
President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma over the weekend reassured the people of Bunumbu, Kpeje West Chiefdom in Kailahun District, of his government’s commitment to the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Bunumbu Teachers College as well as upgrading the standards of the college to a university level. Whilst Julius Maada Bio was making a few blunders in London like his proposal to sue States like Liberia (i.e: Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf’s Government) if he wins, President Koroma was in Liberia strengthening the fraternal ties between Sierra Leone & Liberia. Plan Sierra Leone has played host to an Indian film actress, Freida Selena Pinto, of a very famous and widely watched Indian movie, “Slumdog Millionaire”. May 16 is Judgment Day for SLPP’s Aziz Carew
Honourable Justice Nicholas Browne-Marke is expected to deliver his verdict on Sierra Leone People’s Party’s (SLPP) Chairman for Constituency 104, Abdul Aziz Carew and his co-accused Abdul Quee on Wednesday 16th May 2012. This was made known during the last adjourned date of the proceedings. It could be recalled that the two accused persons were both standing trial for three count charges of Wounding with Intent contrary to Section 18 of the Offenses against a Person’s Act. The belief that the South/East is the stronghold of the SLPP was ostensibly debunked last weekend when thousands of Easterners came out to welcome President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma first in Kono and later in Kailahun. APC Signs Book of Condolence for SLPP’s Dr. Soyei
United Nations diplomats recently met in Dakar, Senegal to re-echo the concerns of U.N. Security Council and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon for Sierra Leone’s political party leaderships and the Government to increase dialogue and cross-party actions as confidence building measures. Since just before Christmas last year (2011) the Electricity Supply to the area where I live deteriorated rather dramatically, and has continued on a downward trend since then. At the same time I have heard grumblings from friends and relatives in various parts of the City that they were experiencing the same problem both with the Electricity and Water Supply. Indeed it is heart rending to see small children who should be in School or getting ready to go to school wandering around most areas of the city early in the morning with 5 gallon yellow containers (rubber) looking for water.

Those who had looked forward to seeing the hopes of Ban Ki Moon, Susan Rice and others come to fruition were disappointed. Julius Maada Bio did not show up. His Running-mate Dr. Kadi Sesay did not show up. The party leader and chairman John Benjamin did not show up. They boycotted a National Event that should have seen them live up to the expectations of high powered figures around the world. The SLPP, in the process, has now lost the moral high ground when it comes to who is to blame for lack of political tolerance and unity in Sierra Leone. They are now equals to the APC and some APC supporters might even go as far as to say, the SLPP is worse than the APC it used to criticise.

SLPP Mourns Dr. Anthony Kakpindi Soyei in Sierra Leone
Members and supporters of the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) are currently mourning the death of one of their very senior party members in the person of Dr. Anthony Kakpindi Soyei. Dr. Soyei died in a gruesome road accident at a village called Fala Village, located ten miles to Bo Town on Saturday 5th May 2012. According to reports, Dr. Soyei was heading to Bo from Freetown on a personal assignment with his gold-colored jeep. Upon his arrival at Fala Village, one of his back tyres exploded, causing his jeep to somersault three times before finally landing on the road side.

Several ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) supporters in Kailahun District yesterday 3rd May 2012 contacted Awareness Times to vehemently denounce the words of one of their sitting Members of Parliament (MP), that APC will not get much votes from Kailahun in this year’s elections. According to these residents, Hon. J.J. Musa of opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) was a “frustrated” man who is out of touch with his people even inside his own Constituency, let alone the entire District.

SLPP Stalwarts want Maada Bio to Travel all over Europe
SLPP stalwarts residing in Europe have told Awareness Times that their desire is not only for the SLPP presidential candidate Julius Maada Bio to visit London but for him to tour all of Continental Europe. SLPP delegations from European cities have reportedly already flown to France yesterday May 4th 2012 where Maada Bio’s entourage was expected to have already landed.

In Sierra Leone, FBC Students Metamorphose to Rebels on Campus
Students of the Fourah Bay College (FBC), University of Sierra Leone, have rebelled against the university’s administration. As part of their rebellion, the students who initially vacated the university hostels on the orders of the administration have denounced the order and forcefully reoccupied the hostels without the permission of the administration. This was revealed by a press release signed and issued by the President of the University Student Union, Mr. Siman Allie Mans-Conteh and his executives on Thursday 3rd May 2012.

In Sierra Leone, President Assesses Impact of Kono’s Agenda for Change
News reports from correspondents indicate that President Ernest Koroma on 3rd May 2012 conducted an impact assessment of the Agenda for Change in Kono District. During his tour around Kono, President Koroma visited the Kono Government Hospital in Kono town, where he accessed the ongoing rehabilitation project on the hospital. At the hospital, President inspected Wards, Mortuary and medical stores. He consoled the patients therein and encouraged them to get well soon.
