Sierra Leone Interview: An Hour with John Benjamin in Dallas
JOB: We would want members of the fourth estate to help ensure that democracy is not destroyed. Some how the peace and stability needs to be maintained. We are coming out from an 11 year war and they help to keep the spirit of the country up so that it doesn’t break apart. They shouldn’t allow their dislikes for individual people to lead them into disliking the interest of their country. We would want all of us to contribute towards the collective progress of the country and not our individual purposes.

The Whiteman’s Burden
"The Whiteman’s Burden," a poem Rudyard Kipling wrote for Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, justified colonialism as an altruistic obligation of people of European descent to rule over non-whites and teach them their customs. This rationalization was not new, however, as the transatlantic slave trade had been similarly justified by the claim that enslaved Africans were being done a favor by their European enslavers because, through slavery, they became Christians and were therefore saved from eternal damnation.

That Land Grabbing Scam: Who Struck the First Trigger?
It might sound ridiculous, but the fact remains that land grabbing has become the order of the day in Sierra Leone. Most disheartening is the fact that these uncountable land grabbing scams and illegal land deals are perpetrated mostly by highly placed personalities, notably government functionaries. These personalities, who are supposed to formulate, serve as role models of adherence and enforcers of laws in the country have rather choose to be violators of either the very laws they are formulating or laws already in existence that require their adherence and enforcement.

Therefore Section 66, among other relevant sections of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 12 of 2008, provides lawful authority for the conduct of the ACC and Commissioner Abdul Tejan Cole in the arrest of Justice Halloway. If SLBA is unable or unwilling to support the action of the ACC, the SLBA must refrain from criticising the ACC; otherwise Sierra Leoneans would be entitled to conclude that SLBA is among the organisations opposed to change and the eradication of corruption in Sierra Leone.
